Description

A sandwich ELISA from Assay Genie is designed for the quantitative detection of human Beta-defensin 126 (DEFB126) in serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates and other biological fluids. The kit is for research use only.

DEFB126 is a highly glycosylated atypical beta-defensin involved in several aspects of sperm function, including sperm transport in the female reproductive tract, protection against immunodetection via the negative surface charge from its O-linked oligosaccharides, and binding to oviductal epithelial cells to form a sperm reservoir. It is secreted by epididymal cells and absorbed to the sperm surface, mainly located on the acrosome, and exists as a homodimer or disulfide-linked homooligomer. The protein shows in vitro antimicrobial activity and may inhibit LPS-mediated inflammation. It belongs to the beta-defensin family (UniProt Q9BYW3; NCBI Gene ID 81623), with a molecular weight of 12,174 Da and a chromosomal location of 20p13. The kit is specific to natural and recombinant human Beta-defensin 126.

Reported performance characteristics include a detection range of 0.625–40 ng/ml and a sensitivity of 0.156 ng/mL. Intra-assay CV is 5.3% and inter-assay CV is 9.1%. Recovery is given as 101% (range 95–107%) for serum and 103% (range 97–109%) for plasma, with linearity reported across 1:2 to 1:16 dilutions of serum, EDTA plasma, and heparin plasma.
