From Assay Genie, this sandwich-format colorimetric ELISA enables quantitative measurement of human Baculoviral IAP repeat-containing protein 2 (BIRC2). BIRC2 is a multi-functional protein that regulates caspases and apoptosis, as well as inflammatory and NF-kappa-B signaling, innate immune signaling, mitogenic kinase signaling, cell proliferation, invasion, metastasis and the cell cycle; its dysregulation has been associated with cancer and autoimmune disorders. The kit is reactive with human samples, including serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates and other biological fluids, and is supplied for research use only.

Quoted performance specifications include a detection range of 78-5000pg/mL, a sensitivity of 34pg/mL, an intra-assay CV of 5.9% and an inter-assay CV of 8.4%. Dilution linearity across serum, EDTA plasma and heparin plasma at 1:2, 1:4, 1:8 and 1:16 fell within 87-120%. Spike-and-recovery averaged 94% (range 88-100%) in serum and 96% (range 90-102%) in plasma.

The assay specifically recognises natural and recombinant human BIRC2 and is intended for cancer research. The target protein (UniProt Q13490) is also known as C-IAP1, hIAP-2, API1, MIHB, RNF48, Cellular inhibitor of apoptosis 1, IAP homolog B, Inhibitor of apoptosis protein 2, RING finger protein 48, TNFR2-TRAF-signaling complex protein 2 and RING-type E3 ubiquitin transferase BIRC2. It localises to the cytoplasm and nucleus, redistributing to the cytoplasmic compartment when the extrinsic or intrinsic apoptotic pathway is induced.
