The human ATP1a2 protein serves as the alpha-2 catalytic subunit of the Na+/K+ ATPase, a membrane-bound P-type ATPase that maintains steep transmembrane gradients of sodium and potassium ions. Predominantly expressed in skeletal muscle, cardiac tissue, and the central nervous system, this isoform sustains resting membrane potential and supports the rapid repolarization that follows each action potential. Loss-of-function mutations in ATP1a2 are causally linked to familial hemiplegic migraine type 2 and to alternating hemiplegia of childhood, underscoring its importance for normal neuronal excitability and neuromuscular signaling.

This quantitative ELISA from Assay Genie is supplied in a 96 assays microplate format with a colorimetric readout, calibrated to detect ATP1a2 across human specimen matrices including serum fractions, plasma preparations, and tissue homogenate lysates. Intended for research use only, the kit supports studies of ion pump regulation, the molecular pathology of migraine and seizure disorders, and skeletal or cardiac muscle physiology. Reconstituted standards and detection antibodies should be stored refrigerated at 4°C, and unused strips should be resealed with desiccant to preserve antibody binding activity across repeated runs.
