ATP13A2 Protein Quantification for Parkinson's Disease Research

ATP13A2 (also called PARK9) is a lysosomal P5-type ATPase implicated in manganese homeostasis and lysosomal function. Loss-of-function mutations in ATP13A2 cause Kufor-Rakeb syndrome, an autosomal recessive juvenile-onset parkinsonism with dementia, and the gene has also been linked to neuronal ceroid lipofuscinosis. Because the protein is enriched in dopaminergic neurons of the substantia nigra, accurate quantification of ATP13A2 levels in clinical specimens supports studies of neurodegeneration, lysosomal storage disorders, and manganese toxicity pathways.

This ELISA from Assay Genie uses a competitive immunoassay format configured for measurement in human samples, with all reagents provided for in vitro research use only. Each kit supports 96 individual determinations per run and includes storage guidance on the package insert to preserve reagent stability. The format addresses the throughput needs of neuroscience and lysosomal disorder laboratories.

ATP13A2 expression has been reported across multiple brain regions, including the substantia nigra pars compacta, cortex, and hippocampus, making this assay relevant to research groups investigating early-onset parkinsonism, dementia with Lewy bodies, and related lysosomal dysfunction pathways.
