The ABCC6 protein, also referred to as MRP6, is an ATP-dependent transmembrane transporter encoded by the ABCC6 gene at chromosome 16p13.11. It is most highly expressed in hepatocytes and at the basolateral membrane of renal proximal tubule cells, where it mediates cellular efflux of anionic substrates.
Loss-of-function mutations in ABCC6 cause autosomal recessive Pseudoxanthoma Elasticum (PXE), a connective tissue disorder characterized by progressive mineralization of elastic fibers, skin papules, ocular angioid streaks, and premature cardiovascular calcification. Quantitative measurement of ABCC6 therefore supports research into vascular calcification mechanisms, inherited mineralization disorders, hepatic transporter biology, and ABC family drug-efflux studies.
This Assay Genie microplate ELISA kit is supplied for research use only and is intended to quantify human ABCC6 in prepared tissue homogenates and cell lysates using a colorimetric readout, with reactivity characterized for the human ABCC6 target specifically. Unused reagents should be refrigerated between uses and protected from light to preserve antibody binding activity through the stated shelf life.
