ABCB5 is a plasma membrane transporter belonging to the ABC transporter superfamily. It functions as a drug efflux transporter present in a number of stem cells, where it acts as a regulator of cellular differentiation. The protein is able to mediate efflux of the rhodamine dye and of the therapeutic drug doxorubicin, and is specifically present in limbal stem cells, where it plays a key role in corneal development and repair. It has also been linked to resistance to doxorubicin in a subset of malignant melanomas, making it a relevant target in cancer research.

The kit is validated for use with serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates and other biological fluids, offering a detection range of 0.156-10 ng/mL and a sensitivity of 0.098 ng/mL to support studies of drug resistance mechanisms and potential therapeutic strategies.
