From Assay Genie, this immunoassay targets human Astacin-Like Metalloendopeptidase (ASTL), also known as ovastacin—an oocyte-resident zinc metalloprotease that cleaves zona pellucida protein 2 (ZP2) to drive zona hardening and establish the post-fertilization block to polyspermy. The 48 kDa precursor is processed to an active ~32 kDa form released during cortical granule exocytosis, where it acts on the zona pellucida to prevent polyspermy. The plate accommodates 100 µL sample volumes and is validated for tissue homogenates and follicular fluid, supporting reproductive-biology workflows in fertility research, oocyte maturation studies, and investigation of autosomal-recessive female infertility linked to ASTL variants. Reconstituted reagents remain stable for short-term use when refrigerated, while unused strips and conjugate should be kept cold and protected from light to preserve activity.
