Human Aspartate Aminotransferase 2 (AST2) ELISA Kit

AST2, also called mitochondrial glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT2), is the mitochondrial isoform of aspartate aminotransferase that catalyzes the reversible transfer of an amino group from L-aspartate to alpha-ketoglutarate, yielding oxaloacetate and L-glutamate. It supports the malate-aspartate shuttle that moves reducing equivalents across the inner mitochondrial membrane, and is increasingly studied in hepatocellular injury, cardiomyocyte bioenergetics, and tumor metabolism.

Discriminating AST2 from cytosolic GOT1 release in plasma, tissue homogenate, and serum helps researchers localize subcellular damage.
