Apelin-36 is the longest bioactive isoform of the apelin peptide family, processed from the preproapelin precursor alongside the shorter apelin-17 and apelin-13 variants. The peptide binds the APJ receptor (APLNR), a G-protein-coupled receptor distributed across cardiovascular, renal, adipose, and central nervous system tissues, where it influences vasodilation, cardiac contractility, angiogenesis, fluid homeostasis, and energy metabolism. The Human Apelin 36 (AP36) ELISA from Assay Genie provides 96 determinations per kit, formatted to quantify this full-length isoform in human research samples through a competitive binding immunoassay.

Investigators use this ELISA-based format in cardiovascular, heart failure, hypertension, obesity, diabetes, and renal pathophysiology research, where circulating apelin-36 concentrations have emerged as a candidate biomarker of metabolic and vascular status. Samples and an apelin-36 conjugate compete for binding in pre-coated wells, and the resulting chromogenic signal is interpolated against a standard curve to derive unknown concentrations.

Before beginning, allow all kit reagents to equilibrate to room temperature, then reconstitute the lyophilized standard in assay buffer and produce a serial dilution series for the standard curve. Pipette samples, controls, and standards into the microplate wells in duplicate, incubate per the protocol, wash, add substrate, develop color, stop the reaction, and read absorbance to determine peptide concentrations. Store unopened kit components per the product insert, refrigerate reconstituted reagents in vials, and protect substrate solutions from light to preserve signal stability.
