Performance characteristics quoted by the manufacturer include a detection range of 78-5000pg/mL and a sensitivity of 38pg/ml. Reported precision values are an Intra-assay CV of 4.2% and an Inter-assay CV of 7.6%. Recovery has been demonstrated at an average of 97% (range 91-103%) for serum and 99% (range 93-105%) for plasma. Linearity data are provided across dilutions of 1:2, 1:4, 1:8 and 1:16 for serum, EDTA plasma and heparin plasma samples.

The target enzyme is a zinc-dependent metallopeptidase of the M1 aminopeptidase family (UniProt Q8N6M6) that catalyses the hydrolysis of amino acid residues from the N-terminus of peptide or protein substrates. It is able to cleave angiotensin III to generate angiotensin IV, a bioactive peptide of the renin-angiotensin pathway, but is not able to cleave angiotensin I and angiotensin II. The protein has a reported molecular weight of 77,937 Da and a subcellular localisation in the cytoplasm. Alternative splicing produces four isoforms of the human protein.
