Human alpha-MSH (AMSH) ELISA Kit

A colorimetric ELISA kit from Assay Genie for the quantitative measurement of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH, also termed alpha-melanotropin) in human serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernatants and other biological fluids.

The assay delivers a detection range of 1.56–100 ng/mL with a sensitivity of 0.6 ng/mL. Intra-assay CV is 4.2% and inter-assay CV is 7.6%. Recovery is reported at an average of 92% (range 86–98%) for serum and 94% (range 88–100%) for plasma. Specificity is for natural and recombinant human alpha-MSH, and the kit is designated for research use in the immunology field. Optical density is read at 450 nm.

Alpha-MSH is described as the principal melanocyte-stimulating hormone driving melanogenesis and pigmentation in mammals, with additional roles in feeding behaviour, energy homeostasis and sexual activity. Dysregulation of the hormone has been associated with obesity, autoimmune diseases and inflammatory disorders, making it a biomarker of research interest across a range of medical conditions.
