Alpha-1-acid glycoprotein (AGP), also called orosomucoid, is a heavily glycosylated acute-phase plasma protein synthesized by hepatocytes in response to inflammatory cytokines. Circulating AGP levels rise markedly during infection, tissue injury, malignancy, and chronic inflammatory disorders, supporting its use as a biomarker for monitoring acute-phase reactivity and disease progression. This Assay Genie kit enables quantitative measurement of human AGP from serum-based fractions, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, and cell culture supernatants using an immunoassay format run on a microplate. Common research applications include oncology investigations, where elevated AGP has been linked to prognosis in lung, breast, oral, and pancreatic cancers, and pharmacokinetic studies of basic drugs such as propranolol, lidocaine, and imipramine that bind AGP in circulation.
