Reported performance includes a detection range of 0.156-10ng/mL, a sensitivity of 0.078ng/mL, an intra-assay CV of 4.3% and an inter-assay CV of 7.6%. Linearity in serum spans 101-113%, 91-103%, 106-118% and 86-95% at dilutions of 1:2, 1:4, 1:8 and 1:16 respectively; corresponding values are 81-91%, 89-101%, 96-106% and 95-105% for EDTA plasma, and 118-127%, 103-113%, 109-109% and 104-113% for heparin plasma. Recovery is 92-104% (average 98%) in serum and 94-106% (average 100%) in plasma. The assay is specific for natural and recombinant human Alanine aminotransferase 1.

Alanine aminotransferase (ALT/GPT) is a key liver enzyme that catalyses the reversible transamination between alanine and 2-oxoglutarate to form pyruvate and glutamate, participating in cellular nitrogen metabolism and liver gluconeogenesis. Elevated serum activity levels are routinely used as a biomarker of liver injury caused by drug toxicity, infection, alcohol and steatosis. Synonyms include Glutamate pyruvate transaminase 1, Glutamic--alanine transaminase 1, Glutamic--pyruvic transaminase 1, GPT 1, ALT1, AAT1 and GPT1. The protein is a homodimer located in the cytoplasm with a reported molecular weight of 54,637 Da and UniProt accession P24298.
