The Assay Genie ACTH immunoassay quantitatively measures adrenocorticotropic hormone, a 39-amino acid pituitary peptide that drives cortisol release through the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. Researchers investigating Cushing's syndrome, Addison's disease, ectopic ACTH production, and chronic stress physiology rely on intact ACTH measurement to distinguish pituitary from adrenal sources of hypercortisolism.

The competitive binding format uses a polyclonal capture antibody specific to the mid-region and C-terminal portions of human ACTH (1-39), with minimal cross-reactivity against related proopiomelanocortin fragments such as α-MSH and β-endorphin. A 50 µL aliquot of serum or EDTA plasma is sufficient per determination, and the kit accommodates duplicate wells on the supplied microplate strip frame.

Standard laboratory practice includes collecting samples in chilled tubes, separating plasma within 30 minutes, and freezing at -20°C if not assayed immediately to limit proteolytic degradation of the peptide. All reagents should be equilibrated to room temperature before use and protected from light. Reconstituted standards and detection antibody remain stable through multiple freeze-thaw cycles when aliquoted into vials. Intended for in vitro research use only.
