Class I gamma alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH1C) is a zinc-containing dimeric liver enzyme built from two ~40 kDa subunits that catalyzes the NAD+-dependent oxidation of primary and secondary alcohols, accounting for a substantial share of human hepatic ethanol-oxidizing capacity. The Assay Genie ELISA Kit for ADH1C enables quantitative protein-level measurement of this enzyme in human serum or plasma specimens for research use only, with an absorbance read-out on a microplate platform supplied in a 96-test configuration.

The kit supports batch processing of experimental samples alongside a calibrator-based standard curve, allowing straightforward integration into existing plate-reader pipelines used in clinical and translational research workflows. Each kit is shipped refrigerated; store refrigerated on arrival and equilibrate sealed components to room temperature before opening to avoid condensation.

In the workflow, samples and standards are added to pre-coated wells, followed by sequential incubations with detection antibody and streptavidin conjugate. After washing, the substrate is added and color development is terminated with a stop solution before absorbance is recorded. Standard curves are generated from the calibrators supplied and used to interpolate sample concentrations, with dilution guidance provided in the product manual so high-concentration specimens can be re-assayed within the linear portion of the curve.

The ADH1C gene maps to chromosome 4q23 within the ADH gene cluster, where its gamma subunit forms both homodimers and heterodimers with the beta subunit encoded by ADH1B. Because population allele frequencies differ, protein-level quantification gives a functional complement to genotyping when researchers examine consequences of ADH variation. The kit is therefore relevant to pharmacogenomic investigation of ethanol and acetaldehyde handling, biomarker discovery in liver disease, and mechanistic studies of aldehyde-mediated cellular damage.
