The kit is intended for research use only and is specific for both natural and recombinant human ADAD1, which localises to the nucleus.

Validated sample types include serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates and other biological fluids. Reported performance characteristics include a detection range of 0.312-20ng/mL, sensitivity of 0.11ng/mL, intra-assay CV of 4.2%, and inter-assay CV of 8.3%. Recovery in serum averages 96% with a range of 90-102%, while plasma recovery averages 98% with a range of 92-104%. Linearity has been assessed across dilution factors of 1:2, 1:4, 1:8 and 1:16 in serum, EDTA plasma and heparin plasma.

ADAD1 is an RNA-binding protein of the adenosine deaminase domain-containing family, playing a role in spermatogenesis and binding to RNA but not to DNA. The protein has a reported molecular weight of 576, maps to chromosomal location 4q27, and contributes to RNA processing, multicellular organismal development, and spermatid development, with adenosine deaminase activity among its molecular functions.
