The Assay Genie ACADM ELISA kit quantitatively measures medium-chain specific acyl-CoA dehydrogenase, the mitochondrial enzyme encoded by the ACADM gene on chromosome 1p31 that catalyzes the first step of medium-chain fatty acid beta-oxidation. Loss-of-function variants cause MCAD deficiency, the most common inherited fatty acid oxidation disorder (population incidence roughly 1 in 10,000 to 20,000 in people of European ancestry), characterized clinically by hypoketotic hypoglycemia, vomiting, seizures, and an elevated risk of sudden infant death during catabolic stress. Newborn screening for MCAD deficiency has been implemented in many countries.

Researchers use the kit to profile ACADM protein abundance in mitochondrial metabolism studies, hypoglycemic phenotype characterization, genotype-phenotype correlation work in MCAD carrier cohorts, and broader investigations of cardiometabolic and hepatic disease. Each kit is supplied with a pre-coated microplate, matched antibody pair, recombinant protein standards, and detection reagents for the full plate format. The assay is performed in vitro and is intended for research use only. Reconstituted standards should be aliquoted and stored frozen to limit freeze-thaw cycles, while unopened components remain refrigerated until first use.
