Description

DHCR7 encodes the terminal enzyme of the cholesterol biosynthesis pathway in mammals, catalyzing the NADPH-dependent reduction of 7-dehydrocholesterol to cholesterol within the endoplasmic reticulum membrane. Loss-of-function mutations in DHCR7 cause Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome (SLOS), an autosomal recessive disorder marked by multiple congenital malformations, intellectual disability, and abnormal sterol homeostasis. Accurate quantification of DHCR7 protein abundance in patient samples and experimental models therefore supports research into cholesterol metabolism, neurodevelopmental biology, and therapeutic strategies for SLOS-related pathways.

The Assay Genie Human DHCR7 ELISA Kit is configured for quantitative measurement of 7-Dehydrocholesterol Reductase in human tissue homogenates and other compatible biological preparations. The assay uses a colorimetric read-out and ships in a 96-assay plate format, with each kit including pre-coated wells, a standard curve set, detection antibodies, wash buffer, substrate solution, and a step-by-step protocol suitable for batch processing in standard laboratory workflows. Reconstituted reagents should be aliquoted and stored at the temperatures indicated in the product insert; repeated freeze-thaw cycles of working solutions should be avoided to preserve reagent performance. Tissue samples should be homogenized in cold buffer containing protease inhibitors to maintain DHCR7 protein integrity prior to the assay. For research use only; not validated or intended for clinical or diagnostic applications.
