Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) is a key member of the neurotrophin family involved in neuronal survival, synaptic plasticity, and neural differentiation. This Sandwich ELISA Kit from Assay Genie quantitatively measures equine BDNF in serum and plasma samples using a colorimetric detection method on a 96-well microplate.

BDNF is widely studied across species, and this equine-specific assay supports research in veterinary neuroscience, exercise physiology, stress and welfare studies, and translational investigations of neurodegenerative and behavioral conditions.

  • Detection method: Colorimetric sandwich ELISA
  • Sample types: Serum, plasma
  • Reactivity: Horse (equine)
  • Format: 96-well microplate
  • Storage: typically 2-8 °C; protect from light and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles
  • Research use only (in vitro)

Each kit provides pre-coated microplate wells, reference standards, detection antibody, and buffer solutions required to perform the assay. The matched antibody pair delivers specificity for equine BDNF, with absorbance readings used to quantify concentrations against the standard curve.

Investigators commonly apply this assay to monitor circulating BDNF in horses during training, recovery, or in studies of neurological disease, advancing understanding of neurotrophic signaling in the equine species.

The standard assay is completed in approximately 4 hours excluding sample preparation, with absorbance read at 450 nm on a standard microplate reader after stopping the HRP-TMB reaction. Each Assay Genie kit provides lyophilized reference standards, biotinylated detection antibody, HRP-Streptavidin conjugate (SABC), TMB substrate, and 25X wash buffer. Serum and plasma aliquots of 50 ul per well are typically loaded; cell culture supernatant or tissue lysate volumes may reach 100 ul per well. Reconstituted standards should be aliquoted and stored frozen to limit freeze-thaw cycles, while the intact sealed kit remains stable at 2-8 °C for up to 12 months.
