The Assay Genie equine MMP1 immunoassay is built for quantitative work on interstitial collagenase-1 in horse-derived specimens, supporting collagen-degradation research in musculoskeletal, dermatological, and inflammatory models. MMP1 (matrix metalloproteinase 1, also called interstitial collagenase or fibroblast collagenase) initiates breakdown of fibrillar collagens (types I, II, III) and is studied in equine contexts including osteoarthritis of the metacarpophalangeal joint, superficial digital flexor tendon injury, laminitis-related extracellular-matrix remodeling, and wound-healing time courses in the distal limb.

The kit accepts tissue homogenates and blood-derived specimens from equine origin, which broadens it beyond serum-only formats and lets laboratories evaluate MMP1 activity at both the tissue and systemic level within a single plate run. Researchers studying cartilage explants, tendon biopsies, or synovial fluid from horses can therefore compare circulating and local collagenase concentrations across experimental groups. A 96-assay plate format supports moderate-throughput work with sufficient replicates for treatment comparisons.

Each plate is coated with capture antibody specific to equine MMP1, paired with detection reagents and a substrate suitable for colorimetric readout on a standard microplate reader. Intended for research use only, the assay is applied in vitro to characterize collagenolytic responses to mechanical loading, cytokine stimulation (IL-1β, TNF-α), or pharmacologic MMP inhibitors in equine cell culture and tissue models.
