This Competitive ELISA Kit from Assay Genie is intended for the quantitative measurement of equine D-Dimer, a fibrin degradation product generated during plasmin-mediated breakdown of cross-linked fibrin clots. In equine veterinary medicine, circulating D-Dimer serves as a clinically informative biomarker for thrombotic events, disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC), strangulating intestinal lesions in colic cases, and exercise-induced pulmonary hemorrhage. The assay reports D-Dimer across a working range of approximately 0.156–10 µg/mL in citrated equine plasma, with a minimum detectable concentration near 0.05 µg/mL, supporting quantitative discrimination between physiologic and pathologic fibrinolysis. Plasma collected into sodium citrate anticoagulant is the recommended specimen type; citrated plasma should be separated by centrifugation and stored frozen prior to assay to preserve fibrin degradation product integrity. The competitive immunoassay principle accommodates small sample volumes, and the microplate format provides sufficient reagents for 96 determinations. Reconstituted standards and detection antibody should be handled according to the supplied protocol, with all kit components stable when stored refrigerated and protected from light until first use. Intended for research use only, this assay supports veterinary diagnostic laboratories, equine internal medicine studies, and pre-purchase screening workflows where elevated D-Dimer concentrations may indicate active fibrinolysis or coagulopathy.
