The enzyme cleaves elastin and other structural proteins, making it useful for digesting stromal components in lung, vascular, pancreatic, and adipose tissue samples. Researchers commonly employ it during single-cell isolation protocols, including islet isolation from rodent or human pancreas and dissociation of airway or alveolar tissue for downstream cell culture and flow cytometry analysis. Reconstitute the powder in an appropriate buffer such as HBSS or PBS to prepare a working stock, and refrigerate the lyophilized material protected from light to preserve enzymatic activity until the indicated expiration.
