Islet amyloid polypeptide (IAPP), also called amylin, is a 37-amino acid peptide co-secreted with insulin from pancreatic beta cells. In canines, IAPP aggregation contributes to amyloid deposits within the islets of Langerhans and is a focus of diabetes mellitus research, making quantitative measurement of circulating IAPP valuable for metabolic and endocrinology investigations.

This Sandwich ELISA from Assay Genie employs a matched antibody capture and detection pair directed against canine IAPP, producing a colorimetric read-out proportional to peptide concentration in serum or plasma samples. The assay is supplied as a 96-well microplate with all buffers, standards, and detection reagents required to generate a standard curve and quantify unknown specimens.

Typical workflow involves running the plate at room temperature with sequential incubation steps, wash cycles, and substrate addition prior to stop solution and absorbance reading. Store unopened kit components at 2-8 °C; avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles of reconstituted reagents to preserve antibody binding activity. Intended for research use only.

Amylin circulates as a 37-residue peptide with a molecular mass of approximately 3.9 kDa, co-released with insulin in response to nutrient stimuli. Assay Genie's Sandwich ELISA architecture pairs a capture antibody pre-coated on the well with an enzyme-conjugated detection antibody, with absorbance quantified at 450 nm after TMB substrate addition. The microplate supports up to 96 determinations in parallel, and reconstituted components should be aliquoted to limit freeze-thaw exposure; sealed plates remain stable at 2-8 °C through the printed expiration. Standard curves commonly span 15-500 pg/mL with sub-5 pg/mL sensitivity, and the assay detects native circulating IAPP with limited cross-reactivity against related peptides such as CGRP and calcitonin, an important consideration when interpreting borderline signals. For research use only.
