Purified from Bacillus polymyxa, this neutral protease gently dissociates adherent cells from tissue culture surfaces without damaging surface proteins or compromising viability. Supplied at 1 U/mL activity in a 100 mL bottle from STEMCELL Technologies, the enzyme is a standard reagent in primary cell isolation, organoid passaging, and the preparation of intact epithelial sheets from mucosa and skin biopsies.

Researchers commonly apply it at 37°C for 30-60 minutes to release confluent monolayers, making it especially useful when trypsin would cleave sensitive surface antigens.
