Supplied as a 5 g vial of lyophilized powder, this enzyme preparation from Clostridium histolyticum is a research-grade tool for enzymatic tissue dissociation. The formulation delivers a balanced mixture of collagenase together with additional proteases (including clostripain and trypsin-like activities), giving it noticeably higher general proteolytic activity than Collagenase Type I or Type II.
STEMCELL Technologies Collagenase Type III is used widely for breaking down stromal connective tissue in primary cell isolation workflows. Routine applications include pancreatic islet isolation from rodent and human tissue, digestion of adipose tissue to release mature adipocytes and stromal vascular fraction, dissociation of liver for hepatocyte preparation, and dissociation of lung, heart, and other organs for downstream cell culture. The crude enzyme format gives researchers the flexibility to titrate activity per application, often paired with DNase I and a compatible buffer to minimize cell clumping and improve yield.
Reconstitute in the buffer of choice before use, aliquot to limit freeze-thaw cycles, and refrigerate the dry powder between experiments. Protect from moisture to preserve enzyme activity across the shelf life of the lot.
