Pepsinogen C (PGC) is the inactive zymogen of pepsin C, an aspartic protease secreted by chief cells of the gastric mucosa in mammals and by the proventricular epithelium in chickens, where acidic pH converts it into its active form for dietary protein hydrolysis. Quantifying chicken PGC supports research into avian digestive physiology, mucosal function, and protein utilization under varying dietary and management conditions.

The Assay Genie Chicken Pepsinogen C ELISA Kit is a quantitative enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay supplied as a complete kit with reagents pre-configured for processing on a standard microplate. The kit format allows 96 individual measurements, supporting routine batch quantification of pepsinogen C across experimental cohorts in poultry research.

Intended for in vitro research use only, the assay supports direct measurement of PGC in chicken serum samples, heparinized or EDTA plasma, and tissue homogenates prepared from the proventriculus and other regions of the upper gastrointestinal tract. Applications include monitoring gastric secretory response to feed formulation changes, evaluating mucosal adaptation during early post-hatch development, characterizing the effects of gastrointestinal challenge on digestive enzyme output, and comparing PGC expression across breeds or production lines.

The microplate-based workflow provides absorbance readout proportional to PGC concentration in each sample, allowing straightforward calculation against a standard curve generated on the same plate. Store unopened kit components refrigerated; equilibrate reagents to room temperature before use, and protect the substrate and conjugate from light to preserve assay performance.
