The Canine Leukemia Inhibitory Factor (LIF) ELISA Kit from Assay Genie is a quantitative immunoassay for veterinary and translational research. Leukemia Inhibitory Factor is a 20 kDa pleiotropic cytokine of the IL-6 superfamily that signals through the gp130/LIF receptor complex to regulate stem cell pluripotency, inflammation, neural development, and reproduction. In canine models, LIF has been studied extensively in the context of uterine receptivity and embryo implantation, where it is secreted by the endometrium during the luteal phase and supports trophoblast attachment to the uterine wall.

Assay Genie supplies the kit as a complete package sufficient for one plate, including a pre-coated microplate, biotinylated detection antibody, lyophilised standards, wash buffer concentrate, substrate solution, and stop solution. Working reagents are usually reconstituted shortly before use, and the kit is shipped refrigerated on blue ice to preserve activity. Unused strips should be returned to the sealed pouch with desiccant and refrigerated between runs; avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles of the reconstituted standards and detection antibody. Standard dilutions are prepared from a 2000 pg/mL stock, and 100 µL of each standard, control, or unknown is added per well in duplicate.

Performance characteristics include a sensitivity below 10 pg/mL, with the working standard curve spanning 31.25 to 2000 pg/mL. The capture antibody is canine-specific, and the ELISA shows no significant cross-reactivity with related IL-6 family cytokines such as IL-6, CNTF, OSM, or cardiotrophin-1 under standard conditions. Researchers use this assay to monitor circulating LIF in dogs with chronic inflammatory disease, to evaluate conditioned media from canine mesenchymal stem cell cultures, and to quantify LIF release from reproductive tissues collected across the estrous cycle.
