Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) is a 119 amino acid neurotrophin that binds the TrkB receptor to support neuronal survival, encourage synaptic plasticity, and drive differentiation of new neurons in the central nervous system. The Assay Genie Canine BDNF ELISA Kit provides an in vitro immunoassay platform that lets laboratories working with canine specimens quantify this protein across serum, tissue homogenates, cell lysates, and cell culture supernatants using antibodies raised against the canine sequence.

Each kit contains a precoated microplate, biotinylated detection antibody, streptavidin-enzyme conjugate, wash buffer, diluent, and substrate solution packaged in individual vials. The procedure uses a capture-and-detect architecture where bound analyte is revealed through an enzyme reaction producing a measurable color change proportional to BDNF concentration, allowing researchers to build standard curves from serially diluted calibrators supplied with the kit. Results are read on a standard microplate reader.

Typical applications include studies of canine cognition, neurodegenerative disease models, stress responses, exercise physiology, and developmental neurobiology, where BDNF modulates hippocampal function, synaptic remodeling, and survival of cholinergic and dopaminergic neuron populations. The reagents are packaged to protect antibody activity, and the kit is intended for research use only in translational work bridging veterinary and human neurobiology.
