Description

This Sandwich ELISA Kit from Assay Genie is designed for the precise quantification of CD46 (membrane cofactor protein) levels in bovine samples, including serum, plasma, tissue homogenates, cell culture supernates and other biological fluids. It is intended for research use only.

The assay uses a colorimetric detection method and is specific for natural and recombinant bovine Membrane cofactor protein. The reported detection range is 31.2-2000pg/ml with a sensitivity of 12.3pg/ml. CD46, also known as membrane cofactor protein, is a key regulator of the complement system that acts as a cofactor for complement factor I, a serine protease which protects autologous cells against complement-mediated injury by cleaving C3b and C4b deposited on host tissue. The protein may also be involved in sperm-oocyte fusion during fertilization, act as a costimulatory factor for T-cells inducing differentiation of CD4+ into T-regulatory 1 cells, and, in bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV) infection, is involved in virus attachment to cells. The UniProt accession is Q6VE48 with a reported molecular weight of 40,070 Da, and the protein is localised to cytoplasmic vesicles, secretory vesicles, the acrosome inner membrane, and the inner acrosomal membrane of spermatozoa.
