The assay shows specificity for natural and recombinant bovine L-selectin and is suitable for stem cell research. Its target is a calcium-dependent cell surface adhesion protein (single-pass type I membrane protein; UniProt P98131; 41,971 Da) that mediates the adherence of lymphocytes to endothelial cells of high endothelial venules in peripheral lymph nodes and promotes initial tethering and rolling of leukocytes in endothelia.
