An animal origin-free, defined culture medium from STEMCELL Technologies, StemSpan-AOF supports the in vitro expansion and maintenance of human hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs). This xeno-free formulation drives robust proliferation of CD34+ cells isolated from umbilical cord blood, mobilized peripheral blood, or bone marrow, helping researchers in cell therapy discovery, regenerative medicine, and process development who need animal-component-free conditions.

Shipped as a single-use 1 L bag, the medium integrates cleanly into closed-system bioreactors, cell processing instruments, and scale-up workflows that generate large HSPC doses for preclinical study. The defined formulation pairs with standard HSPC cytokine cocktails, sustains primitive hematopoietic colony output over extended cultures, and shortens the regulatory paperwork burden tied to xeno components. Seed cells at recommended densities in a humidified 37 °C incubator with 5% CO2, feed every 2 to 3 days, and refrigerate the unused portion protected from light.
