From STEMCELL Technologies, this basal medium is designed to support a wide variety of cell culture applications, with the appropriate formulation chosen according to cell type and culture conditions. It has been used as a culture medium in published workflows involving primary human immune cells.

In one reported protocol, human peripheral blood B cells were cultured for one week in the medium supplemented with 10% FBS, 2 mM L-Glutamine, 10 mM HEPES, and 55 µM β-mercaptoethanol. The medium is also used as part of a six-day culture protocol for differentiating isolated human monocytes into dendritic cells, supplemented with 10% FBS, 0.1 mM MEM Non-Essential Amino Acid Solution (100X), 2 mM L-Glutamine, 1 mM Sodium Pyruvate, and 50 µM β-mercaptoethanol.
