Supplied as a non-sterile mixed-colour assortment, these 0.5 ml polypropylene (PP) reaction vessels form part of Eppendorf's Safe-Lock micro test tube line.

The Safe-Lock range reflects 50 years of refinement and is engineered for reliable handling of small-volume samples. According to the manufacturer, the tubes offer excellent centrifugal stability to prevent sample loss during centrifugation, and the cap provides a tight seal that limits sample evaporation. Genuine product can be identified by the "ep" marking moulded into the lid, and the cap hook design helps prevent accidental opening — particularly important when working with precious samples or solutions containing surfactants such as SDS. Even when incubated in boiling water, only the Eppendorf Safe-Lock design remains fully sealed.

The production process avoids the use of release agents, plasticizers and bacteriostatics — substances that can otherwise leach from plastic consumables into samples and compromise bioassay results such as nucleic acid quantification by spectrophotometry at 260 nm.
