Homogenization is often the rate-limiting step when extracting nucleic acids from fibrous tissues, dense cell pellets, or gram-positive bacteria. This disposable spin column from QIAGEN solves that bottleneck by providing rapid rotor-stator shearing that disrupts residual clumps and reduces lysate viscosity in a single microcentrifuge pass. Each unit accommodates up to 700 µL of lysate and spins at full speed, typically for 2 minutes at maximum rpm, producing a flow-through that feeds directly into silica-membrane capture columns such as RNeasy, DNeasy Blood & Tissue, and QIAamp DNA Mini kits.

The 50-pack format suits medium-throughput workflows in genomics, transcriptomics, and microbiome research. Researchers commonly load partially cleared lysate from tissues stabilized in RNAlater, snap-frozen biopsies, or proteinase K digests onto the column, centrifuge, and recover homogenate ready for binding, washing, and elution. Because the device is single use, cross-contamination between samples is minimized, and the homogenate streamlines into downstream extraction chemistry without additional transfer steps.

The consumable is engineered to operate with standard microcentrifuge rotors that accept 1.5 mL or 2 mL collection tubes. Store dry at room temperature, protect from direct sunlight, and equilibrate the column to working temperature before loading lysate. Labs performing RNA sequencing, qPCR template preparation, or DNA genotyping from challenging sample types rely on this step to improve binding efficiency and downstream assay reproducibility.
