STEMCELL Technologies' MegaCult-C Collagen and Media kit with cytokines delivers a complete collagen-based culture system for megakaryocyte colony-forming unit (CFU-Mk) assays in hematopoietic research. The kit combines a collagen solution, serum-free medium, and a cytokine supplement pre-titrated for megakaryocyte progenitor outgrowth from human bone marrow, cord blood, or mobilized peripheral blood. CFU-Mk colonies form within 10-12 days of incubation at 37 °C and 5% CO2, then are identified by morphology after fixing and staining the collagen matrix. The included cytokine blend removes the need for separately adding recombinant thrombopoietin, stem cell factor, interleukin-3, or interleukin-6, improving consistency for cell culture work targeting platelet production, thrombopoiesis, and bone marrow recovery studies. This research-use-only format supports drug screening, ex vivo expansion protocols, and investigation of inherited or acquired thrombocytopenias where progenitor quantification is critical.
