Description

A serum-free culture supplement developed by STEMCELL Technologies for applications requiring a medium of defined composition. The product combines pre-tested batches of bovine serum albumin (BSA), recombinant human insulin, and human transferrin (iron-saturated) in Iscove's Modified Dulbecco's Medium, and is intended for serum-free cell culture workflows.

The included BSA has been pre-screened to support the optimal growth of human hematopoietic progenitor cells in serum-free media formulations, and the supplement is also suitable for the culture of mouse hematopoietic progenitor cells under serum-free conditions. The product contains material derived from human plasma; donors have been tested and found negative for HIV-1 and -2, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C prior to donation. It should still be considered potentially infectious and treated using universal precautions. It is supplied for research use only and is not intended for human or animal diagnostic or therapeutic uses unless otherwise stated.

Unopened product should be stored at -20°C and remains stable until the expiry date printed on the label. In use, the supplement is employed at a final concentration of 20%, for example by adding 20 mL of supplement to 80 mL of medium plus supplements for a final volume of 100 mL. Bottles should be thawed at room temperature (15 - 25°C) or overnight at 2 - 8°C, swirled to mix, and then stored at 2 - 8°C for up to 1 month. Alternatively, the contents can be aliquoted and stored at -20°C; thawed aliquots should not be re-frozen.
