Valproic Acid (Na Salt), 500 mg

A short-chain fatty acid epigenetic modifier supplied by STEMCELL Technologies as the sodium salt, this compound inhibits histone deacetylases (HDACs) with reported IC₅₀ values of approximately 0.4 – 3 mM. It is also reported to increase γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) levels via inhibition of succinic semialdehyde dehydrogenase and other enzymes involved in GABA metabolism, and to deplete cellular inositol by inhibiting myo-inositol-1-phosphate synthase.

Presented as a crystalline solid with the chemical name 2-propyl-pentanoic acid, monosodium salt (CAS 1069-66-5; molecular formula C₈H₁₅O₂ · Na; molecular weight 166.2 g/mol), the product has a stated purity of ≥ 95%. Reported solubility is approximately 10 mg/mL in PBS (pH 7.2), approximately 30 mg/mL in ethanol, and approximately 5 mg/mL in DMF and DMSO. The manufacturer recommends storage at -20 °C, protected from prolonged exposure to light, and indicates the product is stable as supplied for 12 months from the date of receipt.

According to its Safety Data Sheet, this chemical is classified as harmful if swallowed (Category 4), causes skin and serious eye irritation, may damage fertility or the unborn child (Reproductive toxicity Category 1B), and may cause respiratory irritation.
