From STEMCELL Technologies, this cell-permeable, non-toxic fluorescent substrate is designed for detection of active caspase-3 in mammalian cells undergoing apoptosis. The compound irreversibly binds to activated caspase-3, exploiting the enzyme's substrate selectivity for the Asp-Glu-Val-Asp (DEVD) peptide sequence. Once bound, the FITC-labeled substrate can be detected with high sensitivity by flow cytometry, making it a useful tool for screening caspase-3 inhibitors and for quantifying apoptotic cells containing active caspase-3.
