ThawSTAR CB Automated Thawing System

STEMCELL Technologies offers an instrument designed to standardize the thawing of cells in cryobags, providing scalable and reproducible results. It serves as an automated alternative to traditional water bath methods for processing frozen cell products.

From the Leukopak product information sheet, frozen cryobags can be thawed using this automated system in place of the standard water bath steps. Single-use barrier bags are available for proper positioning of cryobags during thawing. Complete directions are available in a separate Product Information Sheet. The system is listed as an accessory product alongside related items such as DNase I, conical tubes, and serological pipettes.

Comparative performance data are reported for frozen Human Peripheral Blood Leukopaks (Quarter Size) and CD4+ cells cryopreserved in CryoStor CS10. For Leukopaks across three donors, mean live cell recovery using the automated system was 4.42 x 10⁹, 4.53 x 10⁹, and 3.94 x 10⁹ cells, with corresponding mean viabilities of 93.3%, 98.9%, and 98.2%. For CD4+ cells across two donors, mean live cell recovery was 1.27 x 10⁹ and 1.03 x 10⁹ cells, with mean viabilities of 92.0% and 95.2%. All samples were tested in triplicates and assessed using a NucleoView counter.
