Description

Offered by STEMCELL Technologies, this small molecule is tacrine hydrochloride, described as a potent inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase with reported IC50 values of 31 nM and 26.5 nM, respectively. It also inhibits both human and rat histamine-N-methyltransferase in a dose-dependent manner and has been used in studies related to Alzheimer's disease. The compound is described as an L-type calcium channel inhibitor, and published work shows it decreases the influx of calcium in mouse neurons.

Alternative names include C.I. 970 and Hydroaminacrine, and the chemical name is 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-9-acridinamine, monohydrochloride (CAS Number: 1684-40-8). The chemical formula is C13H14N2 • HCl with a molecular weight of 234.7 g/mol, and the reported purity is ≥ 98%. The material is supplied as a crystalline solid. Reported solubility values are ≤ 65 mM in PBS (pH 7.2), ≤ 210 mM in DMSO, and ≤ 85 mM in absolute ethanol.

For storage, the product is stable at -20°C as supplied and should be protected from prolonged exposure to light; for long-term storage, a desiccant is recommended. The product is stable as supplied for 12 months from the date of receipt. It is supplied for research use only and is not intended for human or animal diagnostic or therapeutic uses unless otherwise stated.
