Description

STEMCELL Technologies supplies SAHA (suberoylanilide hydroxamic acid), also known as Vorinostat and marketed under the name Zolinza®, as a research-use small molecule that functions as an epigenetic modifier. The compound is a potent inhibitor of class I and class II histone deacetylases (HDACs), with reported IC50 values of 10 nM for HDAC1 and 20 nM for HDAC3.

Published applications include reprogramming, where SAHA improves the efficiency of converting human and mouse somatic cells into induced pluripotent stem cells. In cancer research, the compound has been shown to downregulate homologous recombination and induce apoptosis in ovarian cancer cells when combined with olaparib, and to downregulate Nanog expression, leading to inhibition of proliferation in head and neck cancer stem cells.

SAHA exhibits antiproliferative properties and can induce cell cycle arrest at G1. It is supplied as a crystalline solid with a stated purity of ≥ 98%, chemical name N-Hydroxy-N'-phenyloctanediamide, molecular formula C₁₄H₂₀N₂O₃, molecular weight 264.3 g/mol, and CAS number 149647-78-9. It is soluble in DMSO at ≤ 75 mM and in absolute ethanol at ≤ 0.9 mM, and remains stable at -20 °C when protected from prolonged light exposure.
