Description

An inhibitor of DNA methyltransferase, this compound from STEMCELL Technologies is used to improve the reprogramming and maintenance of human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs). It is featured in a non-integrating, self-replicating RNA reprogramming workflow for generating induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells.

The substance is a crystalline solid with the chemical name 3-[[(2E)-3-(1H-indol-3-yl)-1-oxo-2-propen-1-yl]amino]-benzamide (CAS 1418131-46-0), molecular formula C18H15N3O2, and molecular weight 305.3. Reported solubilities include approximately 0.5 mg/mL in 1:1 DMF:PBS (pH 7.2), approximately 5 mg/mL in ethanol, approximately 20 mg/mL in DMSO, and approximately 25 mg/mL in DMF.

It is classified as harmful if swallowed (Acute Toxicity Oral, Category 4) and toxic to aquatic life with long lasting effects (Aquatic Toxicity Chronic, Category 2). Recommended handling precautions include washing hands thoroughly after handling, not eating, drinking, or smoking when using the product, and avoiding release to the environment.
