Description
Supplied by STEMCELL Technologies, this small molecule is an epigenetic modifier that inhibits DNA methyltransferase (DNMT), with an IC₅₀ of 115 nM. RG108 is a non-nucleoside inhibitor that acts by direct binding to the methyltransferase enzyme, thereby blocking the enzyme active site, as described by Brueckner et al. and Stresemann et al.
The compound, also known by the alternative name N-Phthalyl-L-Tryptophan (CAS Number 48208-26-0), has the chemical formula C₁₉H₁₄N₂O₄ and a molecular weight of 334.3 g/mol, with a stated purity of ≥ 98%. It is provided as a crystalline solid. Manufacturer solubility data indicate ≤ 90 mM in DMSO and ≤ 150 mM in absolute ethanol. The product is stable at -20°C as supplied for 12 months from the date of receipt, and STEMCELL recommends storing all small molecules away from direct light.
Published applications include enhancing the reprogramming efficiency of human and mouse somatic cells to induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells, as reported by Mali et al., Pasha et al., and Shi et al. The product is for research use only and is not intended for human or animal diagnostic or therapeutic uses.
