Description
This small molecule from STEMCELL Technologies is a 2,6-disubstituted purine derivative that was identified using a screening system based on the loss of terminal differentiation markers in C2C12 myoblast cells. It inhibits the human A3 adenosine receptor, nonmuscle myosin II heavy chain, MEK1, and Aurora B kinase.
The compound has a molecular weight of 393.5 g/mol and a reported purity of > 98%. It is supplied as a crystalline solid and remains stable at -20°C for 12 months from the date of receipt when protected from prolonged exposure to light. Stock solutions can be prepared in DMSO at concentrations up to 25 mM, although the compound has low solubility in aqueous media; for cell culture applications, final DMSO concentration should be kept below 0.1% to avoid potential cell toxicity.
In published studies, Reversine has been used to induce dedifferentiation of lineage-committed mammalian cells, including myoblasts and dermal fibroblasts, into multipotent progenitors with osteogenic and adipogenic potential. In cancer research, it has been reported to inhibit cell proliferation and induce polyploidy across multiple cancer cell lines, and to promote differentiation in leukemia models. The product is intended for research use only.
