Description

A small molecule research compound supplied by STEMCELL Technologies, described as a naturally occurring resveratrol analog and a phenol antioxidant identified in grapes, passion fruit, white tea, and Japanese knotweed. Published reports describe anti-proliferative, anti-inflammatory, and cardioprotective properties for the compound.

The substance is identified chemically as 3,3′,4,5′-Tetrahydroxy-trans-stilbene (CAS 10083-24-6) with the formula C14H12O4 and a molecular weight of 244.2 g/mol. It is supplied as a beige powder at a stated purity of ≥ 98%. The product information sheet reports it as an inhibitor of Syk kinase with an IC50 of 10 μM, and as a modulator of sirtuins that activates SIRT1, SIRT2, and SIRT5 while inhibiting SIRT3. Documented applications include effects on osteoblast and neural stem cell differentiation, inhibition of NF-κB activation, and induction of apoptosis in lymphoma and prostate cancer cell models.

The product is stable for 12 months from the date of receipt when stored at -20°C away from direct light, with a desiccant recommended for long-term storage. Solubility is given as ≤ 40 mM in DMSO and ≤ 40 mM in absolute ethanol, with the Safety Data Sheet citing 10 mg/mL in each of these solvents. As an example, a 10 mM stock in DMSO is prepared by resuspending 10 mg in 4.10 mL of DMSO. The manufacturer advises keeping the final DMSO or ethanol concentration below 0.1% when added to cell culture, and storing stock solutions in DMSO at -20°C, aliquoted to limit freeze-thaw cycles. The product is classified as not a hazardous substance or mixture according to the GHS and is labelled for research use only.
