A 2-thiazolidinone macrolide isolated from the Red Sea sponge Latrunculia magnifica, Latrunculin A forms a 1:1 molar complex with monomeric G-actin and inhibits actin polymerization in vitro (Kd = 0.2 μM). Actins support numerous cellular functions, including endocytosis, cell migration, and tumor invasion, and published cancer research has cited the compound for disrupting the actin cytoskeleton in tumor cells.
