A broad-spectrum phosphodiesterase inhibitor supplied as a 100 mg aliquot for research applications in cell biology and stem cell science. IBMX (3-isobutyl-1-methylxanthine), a methylxanthine derivative with the molecular formula C10H14N4O2, blocks cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterases, raising intracellular cAMP and cGMP levels, and acts as a non-selective adenosine receptor antagonist. STEMCELL Technologies provides this reagent for use in reprogramming workflows, maintenance of pluripotent stem cells, directed differentiation of adipocytes and osteoblasts, and ex vivo expansion of hematopoietic and neural progenitor populations.

Typical working concentrations range from 0.1 to 1 mM in culture medium, with stock solutions prepared in DMSO at 100 to 500 mM. The compound is a white crystalline powder soluble in DMSO, ethanol, and dimethylformamide, but only sparingly soluble in aqueous buffers. For stability, store the dry powder at -20 °C, protected from light and moisture, and use freshly diluted working solutions within a single experiment to minimize hydrolytic loss. The reagent is commonly combined with forskolin, retinoic acid, or dexamethasone in adipogenic and osteogenic induction cocktails.

Packaged as a single-use vial suitable for individual laboratory workflows. Research use only.
