Description

A cell-permeable glycine hydrazide supplied by STEMCELL Technologies, this small molecule selectively and reversibly blocks the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) chloride channel, with a reported Ki of 4.3 μM. The CFTR protein is an anion channel involved in fluid secretion across epithelial tissues such as the airways and intestine, and defects in the CFTR gene are associated with cystic fibrosis. In cancer research, the compound has been reported to block CFTR and inhibit cell division by inducing hyperpolarization in human gastric cancer cells.

The chemical name is 2-[(3,5-dibromo-2,4-dihydroxyphenyl)methylene]hydrazide N-2-naphthalenyl-glycine (CAS Number 328541-79-3), with a molecular formula of C19H15Br2N3O3, a molecular weight of 493.2 g/mol, and a stated purity of ≥ 95%. It is also referred to as CFTR inhibitor II. The product is supplied as a crystalline solid, is not classified as a hazardous substance or mixture according to the Globally Harmonized System (GHS), and is stable under normal conditions. Storage at -20°C is recommended, with protection from prolonged exposure to light; for long-term storage, the product should be kept with a desiccant and is stated to remain stable as supplied for 12 months from the date of receipt.

Solubility information indicates ≤ 50 mM in DMSO, with approximate values of ~25 mg/mL in DMSO, ~30 mg/mL in DMF, and ~0.5 mg/mL in 1:1 DMF:PBS (pH 7.2). Stock solutions are recommended to be prepared fresh before use, and for cell culture applications the stock solution should be diluted into culture medium immediately before use, avoiding final DMSO concentrations above 0.1% due to potential cell toxicity. The product is for research use only.
