Description

From STEMCELL Technologies, this small molecule acts as a cell-permeable inhibitor of the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR). The compound is a glycine hydrazide that selectively and reversibly blocks the CFTR channel, with a reported Ki = 4.3 μM (Sonawane et al.). It is also known by the alternative name CFTR inhibitor II and carries the chemical name 2-[(3,5-dibromo-2,4-dihydroxyphenyl)methylene]hydrazide N-2-naphthalenyl-glycine (CAS Number 328541-79-3). Its chemical formula is C19H15Br2N3O3 and molecular weight is 493.2 g/mol. The product is supplied as a crystalline solid with a purity of ≥ 95%.

CFTR is a chloride anion channel involved in fluid secretion across epithelial tissues including the airways and intestine, and defects in CFTR can lead to cystic fibrosis. In published cancer research, this compound has been shown to block CFTR and inhibit cell division by inducing hyperpolarization in human gastric cancer cells (Zhu et al.).

For storage, the product is stable at -20°C as supplied and should be protected from prolonged exposure to light; long-term storage requires a desiccant. As supplied, the product remains stable for 12 months from date of receipt. Solubility in DMSO is reported as ≤ 50 mM, with additional values of ~0.5 mg/mL in 1:1 DMF:PBS (pH 7.2), ~25 mg/mL in DMSO, and ~30 mg/mL in DMF. This product is intended for research use only.
