Garcinol, 5 mg

A polyisoprenylated benzophenone isolated from Garcinia indica, supplied by STEMCELL Technologies as a crystalline solid of ≥ 95% purity. The compound inhibits the histone acetyltransferases (HATs) p300 and pCAF (IC₅₀ = 7 and 5 µM, respectively) and also inhibits the HAT Gcn5 in Cryptococcus neoformans, inducing temperature sensitivity and impairing growth. With CAS Number 78824-30-3, alternative name Camboginol, chemical formula C₃₈H₅₀O₆, and molecular weight 602.8 g/mol, the molecule is an epigenetic modulator targeting HATs.

Published research applications include: promotion of ex vivo expansion of human hematopoietic stem cells (maintenance and self-renewal; Nishino et al.); promotion of neurogenesis in rat cortical progenitor cells (differentiation; Weng et al.); and induction of apoptosis in several cancer cell types alongside anti-inflammatory actions (cancer research; Koeberle et al.; Prasad et al.). The compound is soluble at ≤ 30 mM in absolute ethanol or DMSO but shows low solubility in aqueous media. Stock solutions should be prepared fresh, aliquoted to avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, and stored at -20 °C protected from prolonged light exposure. For use as a cell culture supplement, final DMSO concentration should not exceed 0.1%.
